I’m Gretchen Vurbeff—Governing Board Member, Carlsbad Unified School District Board of Trustees, a Carlsbad resident for more than 25 years, proud CUSD mom of two graduates, and an educator for the past 30 years. I have a deep personal and professional commitment to the success of every Carlsbad Unified student, family, and teacher.
I’m running for reelection to the Carlsbad Unified School Board, Area 4, because I’m proud of the work we’ve accomplished together over the past four years, excited about what we can achieve next, and ready to get more important work done.
I believe Carlsbad Unified should continue to be recognized for educational excellence, safe schools, and a community-centered approach to serving students and families. As your trustee, I have worked to lead with integrity, transparency, and courage, while remaining an independent voice focused on what is best for our children and our community.
I’m grateful for the support I’ve received from parents, students, teachers, and district staff throughout my first term. Their encouragement—and the opportunity to serve—strengthens my commitment to continuing this work.

QUALITY EDUCATION
Strengthen academic excellence by improving standards and accountability while providing every student with the opportunity to succeed. Our students deserve strong college preparation, expanded career and technical education, skilled trades pathways, and healthier school meals.
STUDENT WELLNESS AND CAMPUS SAFETY
Continue focus on student wellness initiatives that support both physical and mental well-being while advocating for school safety improvements to help ensure our campuses remain safe learning environments for all students
A VOICE FOR PARENTS
Listening matters. Whether responding to parent concerns, collaborating with staff, or engaging with community members, I am committed to thoughtful, transparent leadership that puts students first. It is critical to bring parents to the table to collaborate with educators and administrators.
FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY
Continue to be a responsible steward of taxpayer dollars through sound budget oversight, with resources prioritized for students and classrooms.
